The far south end, and who it works for
Mandalay Bay is the last major resort at the south end of Las Vegas Boulevard, past Luxor and Excalibur, and closer to the airport than to the center Strip. A free tram links it to Luxor and Excalibur, from which MGM Grand and New York-New York are a bridge away, but Bellagio and Caesars are a ride, not a walk. The Mandalay Bay Convention Center is attached and fills the hotel with trade-show attendees on many weekdays.
It suits families who want the best pool complex on the Strip, convention attendees, concert and fight crowds for Michelob ULTRA Arena, and anyone who likes a resort that feels self-contained. Renovated rooms and which side to ask for
Mandalay Bay completed a resort-wide room renovation in 2024, and the standard rooms are now among the freshest in the mid-Strip tier: lighter finishes, better bathrooms, updated technology and generous floor space, since the original rooms were large to begin with. Resort King and Queen rooms make up the bulk of the tower; higher categories add Strip views, corner exposures and the suites on the upper floors. Renovation cycles continue, so ask for a recently refreshed room if you care.
The tower is a wide Y, so views vary a lot. East-facing rooms look up the Strip toward Luxor and the Boulevard, and the higher the better. West and south-facing rooms look over the pool and beach complex and the mountains, which many guests prefer. North-facing rooms on lower floors see the convention center roof. Resort fee and parking, in ranges
Mandalay Bay charges a mid-Strip resort fee, roughly $40 to $55 plus tax per night as of 2026, moving with the MGM portfolio; check the official site. MGM Rewards Gold and above has had it waived. Our resort fee explainer covers what is in the bundle.
Self-parking runs roughly $18 to $30 a night at MGM resorts, with valet higher; MGM Rewards Pearl and above has included free self-parking at various times. The garage is large and connected to the convention center, and arena nights raise rates and fill it, so plan to arrive early. Rideshare pickup is well organised at the north entrance. Mandalay Bay Beach: wave pool, lazy river and the rest
The pool complex is the best on the Strip for families and one of the best for anyone. Mandalay Bay Beach is an eleven-acre spread with a wave pool that runs real waves onto a sand beach, a lazy river that loops through the grounds, several conventional pools, a jogging track, a beach-side casino, cabanas, bungalows and food service. Daylight Beach Club, the ticketed dayclub covered in our Daylight guide, occupies one corner and does not intrude on the rest.
Season generally runs from around March to October; the wave pool and river have closed in winter, with a smaller footprint kept open. Chairs and river tubes go early on summer weekends, so arrive when it opens. The sand is real and gets hot underfoot by midday; bring sandals. It tops our best resort pools list for good reason.
Spa Mandalay and the gym
Spa Mandalay is a mid-sized, well-kept resort spa with a wet area including hot and cold plunges, steam and sauna, a relaxation room and a full treatment menu; day passes have been available to hotel guests. It is not as elaborate as the flagship spas in the center Strip but it is pleasant and less crowded, and the Bathhouse spa at Delano offers a more design-led alternative next door. The fitness centre is one of the larger hotel gyms in the MGM portfolio, with a broad range of cardio and strength equipment, and access is normally included in the resort fee. The pool-side jogging track adds an outdoor option in the cooler months.
Restaurants on property
Mandalay Bay has a deep dining roster, useful at the far end of the Strip. As of 2026 the sit-down options have included Kumi for Japanese, Libertine Social for gastropub food and cocktails, Border Grill for Mexican, Stripsteak by Michael Mina, Lupo by Wolfgang Puck, Citizens Kitchen and Bar, and Aureole with its famous wine tower. The Mandalay Place shops connecting to Luxor add several more, including the Minus5 ice bar and casual counters.
Casual choices around the casino include a food court, a 24-hour cafe and a pool grill in season; Delano and the Four Seasons lobby restaurants are a short walk. Casino, arena crowds and the front desk
The casino is large, open and tropically themed, with a good spread of table minimums and one of the best sports books on the south Strip. It is less frantic than MGM Grand and quieter midweek unless a convention is in town. Michelob ULTRA Arena, attached to the resort, hosts concerts, boxing and other events, and on those nights the casino, restaurants and rideshare queues absorb a big crowd. Check-in runs through a large lobby with kiosks and the MGM Rewards app, which offers mobile check-in and digital keys; convention arrivals on Sunday and Monday afternoons can produce long queues. Early check-in is a request subject to availability. Late checkout is available for a fee or as an MGM Rewards status benefit; ask the night before.
MGM Rewards on the south Strip
Mandalay Bay is an MGM Rewards property alongside Delano, Luxor, Excalibur, MGM Grand, Park MGM, Aria and Bellagio. Membership is free and earns on room, dining, entertainment and gaming spend. Pearl has included free self-parking; Gold and above has waived the resort fee and added late checkout and lounge access; the Marriott Bonvoy partnership and status matches have been the quickest routes to those tiers. Terms change, so check the current program.
Because Mandalay Bay is convention-driven, leisure rates on weekends without a show can be surprisingly good, and MGM offers frequently target the property in the hot months. The trade-offs and our verdict

- Con: the far south location makes center-Strip evenings a ride away.
- Con: convention weeks fill the hotel and lengthen every queue.
- Con: resort fee and paid parking on top of the rate.
As of 2026, rates have run roughly $90 to $200 midweek during conventions and cheaper on quiet weeks, and roughly $200 to $400 on weekends before the resort fee, with arena events higher. Verdict: for a pool-centred trip, a family stay or a convention, Mandalay Bay is the best choice on the south Strip and a strong one overall.
