The two kinds of holiday weekend
Las Vegas treats holidays as opportunities, and they fall into two clear groups. The summer long weekends, Memorial Day at the end of May, Independence Day in early July and Labor Day at the start of September, are pool weekends: the dayclubs book their biggest DJs, the crowd is young and the rates are as high as any summer weekend gets. The winter holidays, Thanksgiving in late November and the Christmas-to-New-Year stretch, are quieter, cooler and, apart from the final three days of the year, far better value.
In between are the smaller ones: Presidents' Day in February, Easter weekend, Halloween, which the nightclubs treat as a major event, and the three-day weekends that fall on Mondays through the year. The rule is that any Monday holiday inflates the Saturday and Sunday nights before it, and the days immediately after the holiday are the cheap ones.
Memorial Day weekend
Memorial Day is the unofficial start of high summer and one of the three busiest pool weekends of the year. Every dayclub on the Strip programs a headline lineup across Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and Sunday night is a big nightclub night because nobody works Monday. The crowd is young and it is loud. As of 2026, mid-tier Strip resorts that go for $150 on a normal late-May weekend run $350 to $600 with three-night minimums at the party properties; check rates early and consider a weekday arrival.
The weather is reliably hot, in the 90s by day, which makes it ideal for pools and poor for anything outdoors otherwise. Independence Day
The Fourth of July in Las Vegas is a fireworks night as much as a pool weekend, and the shape depends on which day of the week it lands. Fireworks launch from several points, typically from the Strip resorts, Downtown and the suburbs, and the top of the Stratosphere tower and the upper floors of Strip hotels get the best views; rooftop and pool parties with fireworks views are ticketed and sell out. It is one of the hottest weekends of the year, often above 105 degrees, and everything happens at the pool or after dark. Rates spike on the holiday night and the weekend around it but the days after are among the cheapest in July. Families are noticeably more present than on Memorial Day, and the family pools at Mandalay Bay and the MGM Grand are at full capacity. Our kids guide covers the family angle.
Labor Day weekend
Labor Day is the closing party of the summer. The dayclubs run their final big lineups, the pools are still hot and the weekend is nearly as busy as Memorial Day, with similar rates and minimum stays. It is also the last weekend before the convention calendar restarts in earnest, which means the following week is quiet and cheap.
September is one of the nicest months to visit in general: still hot but cooling at night, pools open, and the busy autumn events not yet started. Labor Day is the expensive exception. Halloween
Halloween in Las Vegas is a nightclub and costume event more than a family one. Every club on the Strip runs themed parties over the closest weekend, with headline DJs, costume contests and prices closer to New Year's Eve than a normal Saturday; see our nightclub tickets guide. Fremont Street becomes an enormous open-air costume party, free to walk and one of the best people-watching nights of the year.
Hotel rates rise for the weekend nearest the 31st but not to summer-holiday levels, and the weather is ideal, with days in the 70s and cool evenings. Halloween and the late-October weekends are, on balance, some of the best value-for-atmosphere nights in the calendar.
Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a quiet, pleasant holiday in Las Vegas and one of the better times to visit if you do not mind the cool weather. The days around it are calmer than most of November because the Formula 1 race, which usually precedes it, has just ended and the National Finals Rodeo has not yet started. Rates on Thanksgiving Day and the Wednesday before are low; the Friday and Saturday rise as visitors arrive for the long weekend.
Thanksgiving dinner is the highlight. Nearly every buffet and many restaurants offer a holiday menu, and the steakhouses run set dinners; book in October, because tables at the well-known places go fast. Christmas and the week between
The run-up to Christmas is one of the quietest and cheapest weeks of the year, and it is beautiful. The Bellagio Conservatory's holiday display, the trees and lights across the Strip resorts, the Ethel M chocolate factory cactus garden lights in Henderson and the Cowboy Christmas aftermath give it a distinct feel. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are calm; rates are low, many restaurants run holiday menus and shows take a short break or run reduced schedules.
From the 26th the city fills fast toward New Year's Eve, and rates climb each day. The sweet spot for a Christmas trip is arriving around the 20th and leaving on the 27th or 28th: displays up, weather crisp, rooms cheap, and the New Year's crowd not yet arrived. Expect daytime highs in the 50s and cold nights; pack accordingly using our packing list.
The rest: Presidents' Day, Easter and long weekends
Presidents' Day weekend in February lands close to Super Bowl weekend and behaves like a lesser version of it: busier and pricier than the February norm but far from summer levels. Easter is quiet, with the notable exception of spring-break crowds if the dates align, and the weather is at its best. Any three-day weekend inflates Saturday and Sunday by 30 to 60 percent over a normal weekend and leaves the following Tuesday and Wednesday cheap.
The consistent advice for every holiday: if the holiday is the point, book three or more months out, expect minimum stays and reserve restaurants early.
