What LOVE was
The Beatles LOVE was a Cirque du Soleil production that opened at the Mirage in 2006 and ran until July 2024. It was built on a soundtrack that George Martin and his son Giles assembled from the original Abbey Road master tapes — remixed, layered and mashed together in ways the records never were — and played through a purpose-built theatre in the round with speakers in every seat. Around that soundtrack Cirque staged a loose journey through the band's Liverpool childhood, the Blitz, the sixties and the psychedelic years, using acrobatics, dance, aerial work, projections and a great deal of confetti.
It was never the most technically ambitious Cirque show on the Strip — O and KÀ had bigger stages and harder acts — but it was the most emotional. The music did the heavy lifting, the theatre was intimate and the finale, with the whole room on its feet for the last few songs, was one of the great shared moments in Las Vegas entertainment. Over eighteen years it was seen by well over ten million people, and for many visitors it was the show they saw more than once.
Why it closed
LOVE did not close because audiences stopped coming. It closed because its building did. The Mirage, opened in 1989 as the resort that began the modern Strip, was sold by MGM Resorts to Hard Rock International, which announced it would shut the property and rebuild it as Hard Rock Las Vegas, with a guitar-shaped hotel tower rising on the site of the old volcano. The theatre was custom-built for LOVE and inseparable from the resort, so when the Mirage closed in July 2024 the show ended with it. The final performances sold out and the closing night was, by all accounts, a long goodbye.
There was speculation about a move to another resort or a reworked production elsewhere, and Cirque has relocated shows before. As of 2026 nothing has been announced, and the show should be treated as finished rather than paused. The soundtrack album, which is where much of the magic lived, is still available and still worth hearing.
What is replacing it
The Mirage site is becoming Hard Rock Las Vegas, a full rebuild rather than a rebrand, with the guitar-shaped tower as its centrepiece and an opening targeted for around 2027 — treat the date as a moving target and check the operator's announcements. Hard Rock has said the resort will include a large entertainment venue, and it would be surprising if a music-led brand did not put a music-led show or residency at the heart of it. But no replacement show has been confirmed, and any name you see attached to the venue before the operator announces it is a guess.
What this means in practice: for a trip in 2026, that stretch of the north-centre Strip between Caesars Palace and Treasure Island is a construction site, and there is no show to see there. Cirque alternatives: which show fills the gap
Five Cirque productions remain on the Strip, and one of them is the direct heir. Michael Jackson ONE at Mandalay Bay is built on exactly the same idea — a remixed catalogue from an artist everyone knows, played through a dedicated theatre, staged as dance and acrobatics — and it is the show most LOVE fans end up preferring once they stop comparing setlists. If you want the intimacy and the stand-up-and-cheer finale, this is the pick.
The others fill different gaps. Mystère at Treasure Island is the closest geographically and the most playful, with the warmest audience interaction and the lowest prices. O at Bellagio is the beautiful one, the show to choose if what you loved was the dreamlike visual sequences. KÀ at MGM Grand is the spectacle. Music alternatives beyond Cirque
If what you wanted was the music rather than the acrobatics, the Strip has more of it than it did in 2006. Sphere hosts concert residencies by major touring acts inside the most advanced audio-visual venue in the world, and the immersive film that plays between residencies is itself a reason to go; check the calendar because line-ups change. The headliner residencies at the Colosseum, Dolby Live, Resorts World Theatre and BleauLive rotate through pop, rock and country names on multi-week runs, and one of them is likely to be in town whenever you are.
For the Beatles specifically, tribute acts play the Strip and Downtown fairly regularly — some as ticketed showroom productions, others as bar residencies — but line-ups and venues change often enough that we will not name one here; search the current listings when you arrive rather than booking blind. How to choose
Ask what you were actually going to LOVE for. If the answer is the Beatles, book a Sphere or residency concert for the music and Michael Jackson ONE for the format. If it was the Cirque experience with an emotional arc, ONE again, or O if beauty mattered more than the beat. Our verdict
LOVE was one of the best things the Strip ever built and nothing will replace it exactly. But the show that carried its idea forward is playing a mile and a half south at Mandalay Bay, the friendliest Cirque theatre is still standing next door to the construction site, and the music has better venues now than it did then. Do not let a closed theatre cost you a night; pick from the list above and go.
