The shape of four days
Four days is the three-day plan with the pressure removed. The Strip gets two relaxed days instead of one and a half, Downtown gets a proper evening, there are two shows on two different nights and a full day trip fits without wrecking anything else. The only rule is that the day trip and the biggest night out do not sit next to each other.
The sequence below runs Strip, Strip, day trip, Downtown, so that the early tour morning follows a quieter show night and the final evening is the loud one. Swap days two and three if your tour is only available on a specific date.
Day 1: south Strip and an easy night
Afternoon. Check in, then explore the south end: Mandalay Bay and the Shark Reef, the Luxor, the Excalibur and the tram between them, then walk north past New York-New York and Park MGM to the Cosmopolitan. That is a mile of the most themed architecture in the city. Stop at the Cosmopolitan's Chandelier bar for a drink that feels like arriving.
Evening. Watch the Bellagio fountains, then an easy dinner nearby and a short walk on the Strip after dark. If you want a show on night one, pick something light and early: comedy, magic or a lounge act from the shows hub. Save the big production for night two.
Day 2: central and north Strip, then the big show
Morning. Bellagio Conservatory when it opens, the Forum Shops at Caesars, the LINQ Promenade and the High Roller before 11am. Then continue north through the Venetian to Wynn and Encore.
Afternoon. Pool. Four days means you have time to do it properly: a daybed or a shaded chair, lunch by the water, no plans until 5pm. Dayclub if that is your speed; see pool season for how they work.
Evening. The reserved night: a 6pm dinner you booked weeks ago, then a 9pm Cirque show. Our Cirque guide compares the productions; O and KA are the two most first-timers love. Home by midnight, because tomorrow is early.
Day 3: the full day trip
Choose one:
- Hoover Dam and Lake Mead — the shortest option, 4–6 hours including the dam tour. Add Boulder City's historic downtown for lunch if you drive yourself.
- Valley of Fire — an hour northeast, the best desert scenery near the city, 5–7 hours with the Fire Wave or Mouse's Tank walks. Needs a car or a small-group tour.
- Grand Canyon West Rim — the Skywalk and the Hualapai viewpoints, about 2.5 hours each way, 10–12 hours as a coach or small-group tour. Typical tour prices run $150–$300 as of 2026, check the official site. The South Rim is too far for a day; see our Grand Canyon itinerary.
All three are detailed in attractions. Back on the Strip, keep the evening simple: a buffet, a casual dinner or a happy hour, and an early night.
Day 4: Downtown and the last night
Morning. Slow. Brunch, the pool again or a museum you skipped: the Neon Museum daytime tour, the Mob Museum or, out at AREA15, Omega Mart and Meow Wolf if your group likes immersive art.
Afternoon. Move Downtown around 4pm. Walk Fremont East first, then the canopy as the light show starts after dark. The Golden Nugget, Circa and the El Cortez are the three casinos worth walking through; Circa's Stadium Swim is a pool-and-sportsbook hybrid that is fun even if you do not bet.
Evening. Dinner on Fremont East or in the Arts District (a 10-minute ride south), then Fremont Street until you have had enough. If you have a second show in you, Downtown has comedy and small-venue acts that start later than the Strip. Rideshare back from a side street around midnight.
Where to stay and how to move
A central Strip base (Bellagio to the Venetian) keeps days one, two and four short on transit. Tour pick-ups on day three usually run from the big resorts, so a central hotel also means a later pick-up. If you drive yourself to Valley of Fire or Hoover Dam, a one-day rental from a Strip desk avoids airport surcharges; parking at your resort will typically cost $15–$25 a day as of 2026.

Booking order and budget
- Cirque ticket and night-two dinner: six weeks out.
- Day trip tour: three weeks out, earlier for weekend Grand Canyon departures.
- Night-one show and pool daybed: one week out.
- Everything else: on the day.
A mid-range couple spends roughly $1,000–$1,700 over four days beyond the room, as of 2026, with the Grand Canyon tour the single largest line. Hoover Dam instead of the Grand Canyon saves a few hundred dollars per couple. Use the planning checklist to track it.
Adapting the four-day plan
Families: replace the dayclub with a lazy-river pool, make the night-two show a family-friendly production and do Downtown in the late afternoon rather than late night. Summer: run the day trip early (Valley of Fire is best before 10am in July) and shift all Strip walking to mornings. Winter: Valley of Fire and Red Rock are at their best; swap the pool afternoon for a spa.
